American Citizen

Hey guys. Long time no see. I just had to share something that somehow blew me away. For my creative writing class, we went to the art gallery at UCA today. We were supposed to find a piece of art and write a poem about it. The theme of the gallery is about the Japanese Americans of WWII. One painting was simply a picture of a young Japanese boy reading a book in a room with a barbed wire window. The title of the piece was “American Citizen”. It felt like getting run over by a truck when I thought about it. If he’s an American citizen, why is he in captivity? I immediately thought of those that we as Christians choose to leave out of our Christian bubbles. They were created by God just like me. So why is it my will that keeps them in darkness? Why do I feel like that’s my decision to make. They were American citizens, not Japanese citizens. I was hurting for a while after that slap in the face. My prayer is that I will come to accept that it’s not my bubble. The Lord chooses who’s in it and who’s not.
